Former head of state, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, has won  the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential primary for the 2015 election.

Chairman of the convention planning committee and former Ekiti state governor, Dr Kayode fayemi, who declared Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the primary election, said  7, 214 delegates were accredited for the election. A total of 6, 008 votes were eventually recorded.

 Dr Fayemi presented the party’s certificate of the presidential candidature to Muhammadu Buhari amidst cheers from supporters.

  Buhari polled 3, 430 votes to defeat four other aspirants at the party’s third national convention held at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar polled 954 votes, Kano state governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso scored 974 votes, Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha recorded 624 votes while the publisher of the Leadership Newspaper Sam Nda-Isaiah polled 10 votes. Sixteen invalid votes were recorded  out of the votes cast.

 Meanwhile, one of the aspirants, Atiku Abubakar has already congratulated General Muhammadu Buhari for what he described as “deserved victory”.

In a tweet he posted moments after the results were called Atiku tweeted: “Congratulations General Buhari. The delegates have spoken, you fully deserve the victory.”
