Numerous aspirants and their representatives yesterday flocked the national Secretariat  of the All Progressives Congress  (APC)ahead of the release of the report by the screening committee of the party.

The screening committee was supposed to release the names of successful aspirants to participate in the party’s primaries as there were suspicions that many who have not been endorsed by the leaders of the party have not been cleared.

Our correspondents report that aspirants for the House of Representatives tickets have been the most anxious as their primary elections come up on Friday.

The aspirants who were at the party’s secretariat as early as 8:00 am waited till the close of office hours for the report to be released.

When it was not forthcoming at the close of official business, they trooped to the residence of the national chairman of the party, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda.

The APC has said the dates scheduled for the Party’s forthcoming primary elections for the 2027 general elections lections remain unchanged.

A statement by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the clarification has become necessary following the circulation of false and misleading reports on social media and other communication platforms suggesting otherwise.

He said as earlier announced, the primary elections will be held as follows:

House of Representatives – Friday, 15th May, 2026, Senate – Monday, 18th May, 2026 and State Houses of Assembly – Wednesday, 20th May, 2026.

Governorship primaries will hold on Thursday, May 21 while that of Presidential will hold on Saturday, May 23.

According to the timetable previously released by the party, the screening committee’s results were scheduled for release on Tuesday. 

The appeal committee is then expected to sit on Thursday, ahead of the primaries scheduled to begin on Friday, May 15.

The party had earlier waived the screening process for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, underwent screening last Wednesday.

 Our correspondents report that over 2,000 other aspirants for the House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship positions were also screened by the party.

One House of Representatives aspirant from Lagos State, who identified himself simply as Lukman, said they arrived on Monday with the expectation that the results would be made public by Tuesday.

Tension is high among the aspirants, largely due to the friction caused by the party’s consensus arrangements in several states.

Reports indicate that results for the State Houses of Assembly have already been released, sparking “commotion” and leading some party stalwarts to threaten defection.

These consensus arrangements are reportedly causing crises in states including Yobe, Kwara, Benue, Gombe, Taraba, and Ogun.

Daily Trust gathered that the screening committee’s results will likely be released either late Wednesday or on Thursday.

Although the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, could not be reached by phone, a competent source told Daily Trust that the vetting of screening reports—which began early Tuesday—was adjourned around 6:00 pm and reconvened between 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm.
