APC Primaries: Election Committee upholds Goje’s Loss

The Gombe State House of Representatives and Senate Primary Elections Committee has reaffirmed DCP Mohammed Ahmed (Rtd) as the duly elected All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Gombe Central Senatorial District seat.

Presenting the result before newsmen on Tuesday, Chairman of the Committee, Mallam Labiru Musa Kafur, said in the direct primary election conducted on Monday simultaneously across the 11 LGAs of the state, DCP Ahmed scored 89,415 votes in Akko and Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Areas, two LGAs that make up the Gombe Central Senatorial District, to clinch the ticket.

For the Gombe North Senatorial District, Kafur declared that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya was affirmed as the party’s candidate with 131,009 votes to be the party’s flagbearer in the 2027 genral elections.

While Jerry Joseph Damara polled 56,687 votes to defeat Danladi Babadidi, and emerged as the candidate for the Gombe South Senatorial District.

“Having satisfied all necessary requirements and scoring the highest number of valid votes cast in their respective districts, DCP Ahmed, Governor Inuwa Yahaya and Jerry Damara were rightfully declared on the field immediately after coalition.

“The Committee fully stands by these decentralised field declarations which confirmed them as the official flag bearers of the APC for the upcoming elections,” Kafur confirmed.

Our correspondent reports that Senator Goje’s failure to clinch the ticket of the APC to represent Gombe Central Senatorial District for a record fifth term, would mark a significant shift in Gombe Central politics.

Daily Trust reports that the Returning Officer of the Election, Dr Habu Dahiru, had on Monday declared that DCP Ahmed clinched the party’s against the incumbent Senator, Muhammad Danjuma Goje, who has been representing the zone since 2011, after his two terms as governor of the state.

However, Goje, in a statement issued late Monday by his Special Assistant, Ahmed Isa Kashere, disputed the outcome of the senatorial primary election for Gombe Central, describing the result announced by Dr Dahiru as fake, saying the authentic results will be released in Abuja.

But with the declaration of the official results by the Kafur’s committee, which was mandated by the APC National Secretariat to conduct the election, Goje has officially lost out in his bid to clinch the party’s ticket to return to the National Assembly.
