APC primaries: Katsina speaker, Dandutse, Yar’adua get Senate tickets

Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahya Daura, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Katsina North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

Daura secured victory in the party’s senatorial primary election after polling 78,394 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Ahmed Kabir, who polled 2,274 votes.

The Katsina North Senatorial District, also known as Daura Zone, comprises 12 local government areas of Baure, Bindawa, Daura, Dutsi, Ingawa, Kankia, Kusada, Mai’Adua, Mani, Mashi, Sandamu and Zango.

Announcing the result on Monday at Daura Motel, Dr Yakubu Maccido, the APC representative from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, declared Daura winner of the exercise.

“With the powers vested in me as Chairman of the Katsina State National Assembly Primary Election Committee of our great party, APC, I hereby declare Hon. Nasiru Yahya, having scored the highest number of votes, as the winner of the primary election for Katsina North Senatorial District,” he stated.

Following his victory, Daura thanked delegates and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide effective representation if elected in 2027.

“I promise to promote policies that will improve the welfare of the people of the district,” he said.

He also called on other aspirants and their supporters to unite and work for the success of the APC ahead of the general elections.

However, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda supervised the consensus affirmation of two serving senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for second-term bid.

At the Isma’ila Isa Funtua Township Stadium, stakeholders of the party unanimously endorsed Senator Muntari Muhammad Dandutse as the APC consensus candidate for Katsina South Senatorial District.

Similarly, the governor also led the affirmation of Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua as the APC consensus candidate for Katsina Central Senatorial District during an event held at the Katsina Township Stadium.

Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee from the party’s National Headquarters, Dr. Yakubu Maccido Ahmed, said the affirmation followed a unanimous agreement among stakeholders and aspirants in the zone.

“This outcome reflects the collective will of party leaders and members across Katsina Zone. It demonstrates the APC’s commitment to unity, internal cohesion and strategic alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
