Barji David Bitrus has defeated incumbent Senator Diket Plang to win the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Plateau Central Senatorial District in the concluded primary election from the zone.
Barji contested the primary alongside five other aspirants: Senator Diket Plang, James S. Yusuf, Piwuna John, Ishaya Mashingil, Bitrus James, and Ephraim Usman.
Declaring the result on Tuesday in Pankshin, the Collation and Returning Officer Sadak Garga announced that Barji polled the highest votes in the primary.
Giving the detail of the exercise, Garga explained that “In Plateau Central, we have five LGAs make up the zone and six aspirants contested the APC primary for the 2027 general election. David Barji scored 57,727 votes, followed by Senator Diket Plang with 1,423 votes and Ephraim Usman with 1,322 votes. Piwuna John polled 670 votes, Bitrus James got 652 votes, and James S. Yusuf had 574 votes.
“Having collected and collated the results of the primary election of the five LGAs of the zone, I have the honour to reel out the results.
“By the power conferred on me as the returning officer of the exercise , i hereby declared David Barje the winner of the exercise, “ the returning officer added.
Our correspondent reports that the incumbent senator who hails from Pankshin LGA is a first-timer in the red chamber.
