The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has rejected the verdict of the Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja which upheld the election of Governor Ayo Fayose.

But Fayose lauded the judgment describing it as a demonstration that the people of the state freely gave him their mandate and that the election was the freest in the political history of this country.
Fayose in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Idowu Adelusi on Friday said “We have said abinitio that going to court by the APC was trying God and that is the character of a bad loser whose stock in trade is fabricating lies purposely to deceive the gullible minds.
“Ekiti people who came out enmass to vote for Fayose are not fools.
Beside that, we have said repeatedly that the impeachment of October ‎ 2006, is a ruse organised by the cabal of that time to subvert the popular will of the people.
“Though the truth will suffer persecution‎, oppression, suppression, annihilation and humiliation, but it will certainly come out victorious.”
Rejecting the judgment, the APC said it would appeal the judgment
In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Taiwo Olatubosun, the party said it was dissatisfied with the ruling, which dismissed the petition based on the fact that the grounds of the petition were pre-election matters. “Even though the tribunal did not say that all the issues raised against Fayose were‎ not true, dismissing the entire case on the basis of pre-election matter tag will not be challenged at the Appeal Court.”
The APC spokesman noted that before the election, an allegation of perjury was raised against the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate, who stormed the court to disrupt proceedings of the trial of the case after the trial judge, Mr. Justice Segun Ogunyemi, judges, lawyers and other court officials were beaten and court records in the office of the Chief Judge were torn.
Expressing worry over the triumph of impunity in the polity by desperate politicians, the party called on the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) to save ‎Nigerian Constitution by preserving the integrity of the judiciary.
His words: “It is worrisome that the judiciary appears not ready to tackle the flagrant abuse of the courts by desperate politicians. An allegation of perjury was raised against Fayose before the election.
“We call the attention of NJC to this orchestrated scheme to put justice in chains in Ekiti State.‎ APC will continue to tread the path of constitutionality in the resolution of this sordid assault on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In the next few days, our party will approach the Court of Appeal to seek redress over this matter.”
