It is also worth recalling that before Wamakko’s defection to the party, the APC was an obscure party without visible presence in the State so much so that the party had no befitting office accommodation anywhere in the state. with his joining the party, Wamakko breathed life into it all over Sokoto State with vibrant party offices across the 23 local government areas of the State and the over 240 wards.
He came into the APC with all the serving local government Chairmen, their Councillors and all the notable politicians within the local government areas. That feat was a solid demonstration of his tenacity of purpose and the fact that, as things stand today the average Sokoto citizen would root for Wamakko any day, irrespective of what party they belong to.
Governor Wamakko has over the years proved himself to be a politicians’ politician, a goal-getter, a master strategist who can mobilise and sway even opponents to his side.
Recently, when the state congress was held, Sokoto State was a blueprint of where consensus really worked out well. The elections into the ward, local and state executive councils of the APC were held in remarkable harmony as they were rancour–free. Governor Wamakko’s personal Charisma as a dependable and reliable leader worked wonders in making the Sokoto State elections unique without any rumpus.
As I write, many state chapters of the APC are mired in post-election rumbles as there are complaints of either imposition of leadership or something of that nature which are, of course, being addressed.
It is therefore appropriate to single out Governor Wamakko as exemplary for midwifing rancour-free elections into party offices in Sokoto State. This is because of his discernible and unwavering commitment to accomplish whatever task he is faced it.
Now that the APC at the national level has appointed Governor Wamakko to head its National Convention, the expectation is that he would apply the Sokoto template to deliver impeccable results, a rancour-free convention, a remarkable exercise that would go into the annals of Nigerian political history.
His emergence as the convention Chairman is an ample testimony of the conviction of APC’s top echelon that Governor Wamakko is steadfast; dependable, and reliable and a committed party leader who could always brave the odds and break records.
Back home in Sokoto, the governor is well regarded by the people and the men and women of the APC. His residence has become a sort of Mecca to all of people, with his literally open-doors policy in practice.
These are the same traits and more that will serve him well as he plots a landmark National Convention for the APC that will be acceptable to all stakeholders and further advance the course of democracy in the country.
