The aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State who are supporters of a former governor and present Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, have shunned the appeal committee set up by the party to look into their grievances following the outcome of the October 16, 2021 congresses in the state.

Cracks have widened in the state chapter of the party between loyalists of former governor Rauf Aregbesola and supporters of Governor Gboyega Oyetola over control of the party’s structure.

Aregbesola’s loyalists had filed a suit at a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, against the party over the ward congress held on July 31, 2021, and to challenge the outcome of the October 16 state congress in the state

But the chairman of the appeal committee, Ambassador Obed Wadzani, disclosed yesterday that no petition was received from any member of the party in the state.

He said the committee has concluded its assignment and would return to Abuja to report to the national secretariat of the party accordingly. 

Recall that parallel congresses held in the state during the state congresses of the APC.

APC holds congress in Taraba despite court order

The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday held its state congress in Taraba State despite a high court order restraining it from doing so.

A former chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in the state, Barr Ibrahim El Sudi, was elected state chairman at the congress chaired by Alhaji Tijjani Tumsa, from the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The congress was conducted at a warehouse in Jauro Junu village with heavy security presence.

Speaking before the congress, conducted through affirmation, the senator representing Taraba Central, Yusuf A. Yusuf, said there was nothing illegal about the state congress they conducted.

“What we are doing today – the state congress of our great party, the APC – is legal and there is nothing illegal about it and all members should not fear anything,” the lawmaker said.
