A coalition of support groups of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North-West zone has asked the party’s national vice chairman (North-West), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, to resign.
The coalition in a statement Tuesday in Abuja by its leader, Mallam Sani Maikori, said the call became necessary in view of Lukman’s “incessant opposition” to the zone’s interest and especially on the issue of the Senate Presidency that the zone is clamouring for.
Lukman had, at a press conference in Abuja, accused some senators-elect aspiring for the office of Senate President in the 10th Assembly from the North-West of bribing National Working Committee (NWC) members with bags of rice and sugar.
In another statement, he asked them to step down for the South-South to produce Senator Ahmad Lawan’s successor.

But the APC support groups said the development was disturbing and asked Lukman to resign or be sacked by the APC top echelon.
“Since Salihu Lukman is more interested in the interest of a different geo-political zone than the North, on behalf of which he sits at the NWC, we hereby demand his immediate resignation or sack if he decides not to tow the path of honour,” he said.
But reacting, Lukman, in a text message last night, simply said, “I wish them good luck.”
