The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the statement by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be a one-term President as laughable.

The APC Spokesman for Lagos State, Seye Oladejo, who reacted to the ADC’s statement yesterday described the opposition party as an association of serial defectors, stressing that the party was already on “political life support” and will soon “fizzle into oblivion.”

Recall that a former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, had  last Saturday called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to rally Nigerians to oust President Tinubu in 2027, claiming that Tinubu wants to make himself a “life president.”

He alleged that Tinubu’s administration was tilting towards authoritarianism, stressing that there were glaring signs the president wants to sit tight.

But responding in a post via his X handle on Sunday night, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, described the comments as “unfounded speculations” and “political fabrications,” saying the president has no plan to stay in office beyond 2031, if re-elected in 2027.

However, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement on Tuesday said Tinubu’s mandate ends in 2027, describing the president as a one-term president. The ADC said the president should be preparing to leave office in 2027, not  2031.

But the Lagos APC in a statement yesterday said, “We note with utter amusement the latest daydream from the tottering ADC, now parading itself as a credible voice in Nigeria’s democracy. Their claim that President Tinubu will be a one-term President is nothing but idle talk from a party that has never tasted power at the center and is unlikely to do so in this lifetime.”

The party said, “It is rather convenient for a party that has no record of winning elections at the national level to begin to write imaginary scripts about the tenure of a leader whose political sagacity, track record of service, and capacity to deliver are beyond question.

“President Tinubu has only just begun the hard work of resetting Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and progress. Nigerians are already seeing bold, people-oriented policies that lesser leaders have shied away from for decades.”
