The incumbent Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the governorship election conducted in Kwara State.

Ahmed floored the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Simeon Sule Ajibola with 295, 832 votes against Ajibola’s 115, 220 votes while the Labour Party candidate, Dr. Mike Omotosho came a distant third with 2, 973 votes.

APC also won all the 24 seats in the state House of Assembly, defeating its arch-rival, the PDP in all the state constituencies.

The final results declared by the state Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Musbau Akanji, indicated that the election witnessed low turn-out.

Out of 1, 171, 569 registered voters, only 455, 397 voters were accredited while the total number of votes cast stood at 434, 354. Total valid votes were 419, 633 while 14, 721 votes were rejected.
