Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura will, in June, inaugurate the Seventh Assembly with the APC occupying 19 of the 24 seats, while the PDP, which has been the majority party, will occupy only five.
The PDP, in 2011, won 19 of the 24 seats, while the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) got only five. But one of the minority members, Nathaniel Agyomesa, dumped his party soon as the CPC achieved a merger with three other political parties to form the APC which has now taken the majority seats.
Agyomesa, who is representing Lafia-East defected to the PDP, swelling the number to 20, while the APC has four in the outgoing assembly.
Results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, showed that the APC won in Akwanga-South, Awe-North, Awe-South, Doma-South, Nassarawa-Eggon-East, Obi I, Gadabuke/Toto, Umaisha, Wamba, Karu/Gitata, Uke/Karshi, Keana, Keffi-West, and Keffi-East.
Other seats won by the APC are: Kokona-East, Kokona-West, Lafia-Central, Nassarawa-Central, and Udege/Loko.
The two APC members who got return tickets, namely, Tanko Tunga (Awe-North), and Ibrahim Bala Moskolo (Keffi-West) were all re-elected.
The five constituencies won by the PDP are: Akwanga-North, Doma-North, Nassarawa-Eggon-West, Obi II, and Lafia-North.
Only four serving PDP members, namely: Peter Mbucho (Akwanga-North), Godiya Akwashiki (PDP, Nassarawa-Eggon-West), Mohammed Okpede (PDP, Doma-North), and Elisha Agwadu (PDP, Obi II), were re-elected, with one new member into the House for Lafia-North.
Asked to comment, the state PDP spokesman, Yohanna Mark Neto, said the reversal of composition which affects his party is normal in a democracy, but added that it will only strengthen the resolve of the PDP to make adjustments ahead of the next elections.
Also commenting, Kassim Muh’d Kassim, the APC member-elect for Akwanga-South said his party’s victory shows that the people are in charge.
