The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has intensified efforts to persuade the Senator representing Kano Central, Rufai Sani Hanga, to defect to the ruling party, saying he was humiliated and sidelined by the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The appeal was made on Tuesday when a delegation of APC chieftains, led by the party’s Vice Chairman in Kano State, Salisu Maje Gwangwazo, paid a courtesy visit to Hanga at his residence following his return from a medical trip.

Addressing the senator, Gwangwazo said Hanga deserved better treatment considering his long-standing loyalty and sacrifices for Kwankwaso.

According to him, Kwankwaso’s refusal to offer Hanga an elective position in the New Nigeria Development Coalition (NDC) was evidence that the former governor no longer valued him.

“We are here to welcome you back home from your medical trip and, more importantly, sympathise with you over the level of humiliation meted out to you by Jagora.

“Despite your long-standing relationship and support for Kwankwaso, he has clearly shown that you are not relevant to them.

“To prove that, Kwankwaso has refused to offer you any elective position in the NDC despite all your sacrifices. That should tell you who the real betrayer is,” Gwangwazo said.

He appealed to the senator to join Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the APC, assuring him that he would be appreciated in the party.

“We are here to plead with you to return and join Governor Yusuf in the APC, where you will be important and relevant.

“We are not promising you the senatorial ticket because the governor has already settled issues concerning members of the National and State Assemblies. But we want you to return to where you will be valued,” he added.

The visit came amid growing political speculation over Hanga’s future after the senator recently reaffirmed his loyalty to Kwankwaso while also revealing that he had held a private meeting with Governor Yusuf, during which confidential political issues were discussed.

Senator Hanga did not publicly respond to the APC’s appeal during the visit, and there was no immediate indication that he had accepted the invitation to join the ruling party.
