The Court of Appeal, Akure Division, has affirmed  the validity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election in Ekiti State, which produced Dr. Wole Oluyede, as the party’s governorship candidate.

In a unanimous decision, the three-man appellate panel led by Hon. Justice Peter Chudi Obiorah, and  Hon. Justice Jane Esienanwan Inyang and Hon. Justice Peter O. Affen, set aside the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti. 

The justices held that the primary election conducted by the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) was valid, transparent, and complied with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

The PDP South-West Publicity Secretary and Director of Media and Publicity for the PDP 2026 Governorship Campaign Council, Chief Sanya Atofarati, while reacting to the development said the PDP is happy, the momentum is now right with the PDP in Ekiti State.

Chief Atofarati, noted that the victory is not only for Dr. Oluyede, neither is it for only the PDP, but it’s for the entire people of the state. 

“We welcome the ruling, we commend the courage of the Judiciary, even against internal interference by our political detractors. The Judges in this appeal, have demonstrated that democracy can thrive when there is mutual respect”.
