Applicant bags 1 month over N2.5m land fraud

An applicant in Gombe has been sentenced to one month imprisonment over land racketeering to the tune of N2.5 million. The convict, Shehu Muhammed, was charged before a Gombe High Court by the Zonal Office of the EFCC over a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation. The court was told that the convict advertised a plot of land and collected N2.5m over the supposed land, but that it was discovered that the convict was neither the owner nor agent of the plot of land and therefore had no authority to sell the land.

The court further heard that the convict converted the money to his personal use. He pleaded guilty to the charge. Justice Sa’ad Muhammad sentenced him to one month imprisonment with an option of N40,000 as fine. The court also ordered him to pay the balance of N1.86m to the complainant.
