The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has opened student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, scheduled to run from October 23, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

In a statement signed by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications, NELFUND expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation of tertiary institutions nationwide and called for further collaboration to ensure a smooth and inclusive loan process for all eligible students.

The statement added that institutions were reminded to update and upload verified records of both returning and newly admitted students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal, as this step is essential for students to successfully apply and benefit from the scheme.

To support a seamless rollout, NELFUND stated that the portal will open on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and close on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Eligible applicants include returning and newly admitted students of accredited tertiary institutions.

It added that fresh students may apply using either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a Matric Number. Institutions are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement.

Students that have not commenced their academic session were encouraged to formally write to NELFUND with their approved calendar to allow for scheduling flexibility.

The Fund also appealed to institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed, to ensure no student loses access to education due to financial constraints.
