The essence is to vividly capture the dexterity of the political actors who adopted it as to enrich our lessons on democracy, deepen understanding of the philosophy among the electorate and strengthen the faith in the ambitious task of repositioning the nation on a new path of development which APC has come to represent.
To begin with, a folk proverb has it that a good dancer’s first step tells so much of what to expect in a performance auditorium. In this political theatre of ours therefore, it is fascinating and fulfilling that as party with rich political history, APC spurred by the dire need to alleviate Nigeria of the socio-economic and political decadence the country is entrenched in, wittingly created an idea which the masses easily aligned with. East or west, north or south the sound and belief in change receive accolades.
Change in what form? From being import-dependent country to export dependent one. Change from a corruption ridden society to integrity driven place. Change from a grotesque crude oil exporting but fuel importing nation to petroleum processing and fuel exporting one which providence graciously designated Nigeria ab initio. Change from epileptic power situation that frustrates and kills industries to steady power scenario. Change from a country with no concrete employment plan for the youth to one that pro-actively creates job for the young ones and engages them meaningfully for nation building. One can go on and on to enumerate areas deserving change.
For most political watcher, APC started well and like a good dancer’s first step predictably, it’s going to do well in the forthcoming election and in the government it plans to inherit. The beauty of the change campaign is better grasped when one realizes that the approach has been simple and fundamental. From gathering of progressive minds of various political parties which metamorphosed into the great party to genuine struggle to liberate Nigeria from the grip of poor leadership; then came the evolution of the party symbol of a local broom that sweeps clean a littered environ (the broom revolution) ostensibly a grand design to sweep out the ruling party and its inefficient ways of running the affairs of the country.
Their strategies are home-grown, intellectually driven and accurately packaged to depict can-do spirit of Nigerians in the competitive global market place and therefore speaks volumes of what to expect in terms of ideological drive when the party takes over the mantle of leadership of this country. Reminisce of President Obama’s campaign strategy in the United States of America with the slogan “the change we can believe in” whose simplicity and convincing message saw the youth, women and entire blacks in the country taking up the campaign that saw Obama triumphant in the election; the strategies of APC campaign in Nigeria has grown into a popular movement with unstoppable capacity. It cuts across regional, ethnic, religious, class or professional boundaries. Above all the gross inefficiencies of the ruling party makes the APC campaign an easy ride such that there is hardly a well reasoning individual that will not embrace it whenever the opportunity comes, be it during campaign rally, conference or  the much expected voting.
Another early signs of APC success in the forthcoming election hinges on its choice of presidential candidate and the running mate, General Mohammed Buhari and Prof Yemi Osibanjo respectively- a duo meticulous chosen based on their sterling qualities. While Gen Buhari, a former head of states, considered fearless and incorruptible, has all it takes to bravely fight corruption which many believe is the cankerworm that retards the advancement of this great nation, Prof. Osibanjo is a prolific professor of Law and has the potential of entrenching the requisite rule of law to complement Gen. Buhari’s hardline policy on corrupt elements. In fact, it is a majority consensus that the duo of Gen Buhari and Prof. Osibanjo are unrivalled in suitability rating for the office of President and Vice president of Nigeria, respectively. It is interesting to behold that the same way he led the military to rescue the country from clutches of bad leadership in 1983, is the way he is leading another army of change agents in civil tactics to salvage the country from bad governance that is threatening to disintegrate it.
