The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a man by his 21-year-old apprentice (name withheld) on Sunday in the Fegge area of Onitsha.
Confirming the incident to newsmen on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the suspect has been arrested.
Ikenga also confirmed the recovery of a pestle believed to have been used to commit the crime.
“The boss scolded the suspect for his behavior, including pilfering money from the shop, using drugs, and returning late at night,” Ikenga said. “This led to an altercation which escalated, resulting in the suspect using a pestle from the kitchen to hit his boss on the head.”
The PRO explained that the victim’s wife was also rescued and taken to the hospital, where she is currently responding to treatment.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served.
A witness, who pleaded anonymity, corroborated the police account, stating that the apprentice allegedly attacked his boss after being reprimanded for his conduct. (NAN)
