The newly elected President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Arc. Enyi Ben-Eboh has urged architects to respond to the challenges thrown up by climate change and begin to fashion out solutions.

Ben-Eboh who spoke at the NIA’s 61st annual general meeting in Abuja on Thursday said apart from the impact of climate change on the built environment, the coronavirus disease has also changed the way the profession is practiced.

“In line with the realities of today’s practice environment, we have chosen the theme, Smart Architecture: Exploring New Frontiers in Architectural Practice. And we must begin to shape up for the digital era we now live in, with its numerous disruptions. We also take a critical look at the effect of technology on the way we ply our trade and the impact this will have on the way spaces are perceived and utilised,” he said.

In his speech, the outgone president of NIA, Arc Sonny Echono, said under his watch, the institute embraced  technology to carry out most of its professional assignments in a bid to stop the spread of the COVID-19.
