Recently, my friend’s wife was in a big, popular government hospital here in Abuja for a happy event. Well, happy because they were expecting their first child. But this soon turned to a nightmare because the wife was in a critical position and the hospital was doing everything possible to see that they were checked out of the hospital. Obviously, they did not want the wife and baby to ‘die’ in their hospital. It took a lot of pressure and pulling of strings for the pregnant woman to stay in the hospital. However, in the end no-one died and the baby was safely delivered. But this is worrisome, that hospitals are more concerned about their reputation than doing their job, of saving lives. God help us!
