Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, and the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have clashed over the 2027 general elections.

Aregbesola, a former Interior Minister while receiving scores of members of the Labour Party (LP) under the umbrella of the Conscience Forum in Lagos to the ADC, said the party would take over the control of Lagos State and the Presidential Villa in Abuja in the 2027 general elections.

The defectors were led by Hon. Moshood Salvador, a former House of Representatives member and Chieftain of the LP to the ADC.

Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State, while receiving the defectors at the weekend, alleged that the APC had plunged Nigerians into hardship and hunger, stressing that life has become difficult for citizens.

The ADC national secretary also alleged that the APC has failed on its campaign promises to Nigerians, and asked Nigerians to join the ADC, saying the party has the capacity to end the avalanche of challenges bedeviling the country.

But reacting, the Lagos State Spokesman of the APC, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said Aregbesola who “was once a proud landlord in the progressive family has reduced himself to a wandering tenant in a mushroom opposition party.”

The APC said it was laughable that Aregbesola would think of the ADC defeating President  Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in the 2027 elections.

“From Lagos Commissioner to Osun governor and then minister, Aregbesola ate, dined, and thrived on the APC table. Today, in a desperate bid for relevance, he is busy setting fire to the same house that made him. That is political suicide of the highest order,” the APC said.

“When Aregbesola condemns the APC, he is not damaging us; he is shredding his own resume. Every attack on APC is an attack on the very foundation of his career. It is akin to a man writing his autobiography with an eraser. Nigerians know better than to take such a self-destructive messenger seriously.

“If the ADC thinks Aregbesola is the one to lead them to electoral glory, then they are preparing for a funeral, not a victory. Putting Aregbesola at the front of a charge against APC is a recipe for failure,” the APC added.
