Arewa People’s Forum in the United States of America has said it will offer support in education and empowerment of Northern Nigerian youths, especially the girl-child.
A jointly signed statement by Umar Muhammad and Martins Ocholi, Interim Chairman and Secretary respectively, said that the 2015 Gender Report compiled by the UNESCO shows that fewer than half of countries in the world have achieved the goal of gender parity in both primary and secondary education and that most remarkable and disturbing is the fact that no country in sub-Saharan Africa was mentioned in the report as having achieved the gender parity goal.
 “Therefore, realizing that the poorest and most disadvantaged girls in Nigeria are in Northern Nigeria, we have set out a comprehensive agenda to ensure that Nigeria enters the gender parity achievement list. Gender parity could be achieved by ensuring that education is really free; providing policies to address the problems that many boys face, as well as girls in accessing and completing education; providing alternative secondary education options for out-of-school adolescent females; and training and equipping teachers to address gender inequality,” it said.
