The Arewa Youth Assembly has decried the existence of a plot by some governors to destabilize the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and undermine the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists during a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the group’s spokesperson, Mohammed Sanni, claimed that certain political actors were attempting to create division within the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) as part of a broader agenda to weaken the APC from within.
The group specifically accused two southern governors of spearheading moves aimed at removing the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma.
According to the assembly, the move is reminiscent of events that preceded the 2015 general elections, which they claimed contributed to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Arewa Youth Assembly alleged that Governor Uzodimma was being targeted because of his perceived loyalty to President Tinubu and his role in mobilizing support for the President’s second-term ambition.
“Intelligence available to us indicates that they want to destabilize the Progressive Governors Forum as a prelude to destroying the party from within,” the group said.
It further asserted that the APC governors remain the “strength of the party” and are critical to securing Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The group, however, commended governors—particularly those from the North—for rallying behind Uzodimma and supporting the zoning arrangement that would allow the South to complete its turn in power by 2031.

The Assembly also issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the concerned governors to apologize to President Tinubu, the APC, and the Progressive Governors Forum over what it described as an “ill-advised, aborted palace coup.”

The group reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid and praised Uzodimma for his efforts to strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
