A cross-section of Northern leaders, on Thursday appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action to stop the incessant killings in some states like Benue, Plateau, Borno among others in the North.
The leaders under the aegis of the Arewa Grassroots Leaders Assembly (AGLA) said their demands became imperative following an upsurge in violent attacks.
Addressing Defence correspondents at a press conference in Abuja, President of ALGA, Hon. Onogu Collins condemned the recent wave of killings in Northern Nigeria, which he said was spiralling out of control.
Collins disclosed that the recent attacks have resulted in the loss of over 300 lives.

According to him, the development is a grim reminder of the security challenges facing Nigerians, arguing that the most affected places in the country are rural areas.
He said, “We call for the establishment of a task force as a new strategy to investigate and apprehend perpetrators and also deploy more security personnel to affected areas.
“We also call for increased security funding. We also propose that the government should support community – led security initiatives, including community vigilante groups as well as neighbourhood watches.”
