Arewa Think Tank seeks special grants for medical students

The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has called on state governments nationwide to approve special grants for medical students.

The group made the call in a statement issued by the Convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, on Monday and made available to the media in Abuja.

The ATT lauded the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, for approving the resumption of bursary payments to students in tertiary institutions and introducing special grants for medical students across the State.

It described the governor’s intervention as a bold, visionary, and people-oriented initiative capable of transforming the state’s educational landscape and easing the financial burden on many students and their families.

According to the statement, the introduction of special grants for medical students is particularly commendable, considering the enormous financial demands associated with medical training in Nigeria.

“Arewa Think Tank urged other state governors across Nigeria to emulate Governor Otu’s example by implementing policies and programmes that directly impact the welfare and future of students and young people,” the statement said in part.

It stressed that the initiative would not only encourage students pursuing careers in medicine and healthcare but would also strengthen the capacity of the health sector in the long run by producing more qualified professionals.
