The Arewa Youth Advocates for Equity and Justice (AYAFEJ) has expressed support for the Federal Government’s renewed anti-corruption campaign and commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what it described as strengthened efforts to promote accountability in public office.

In a statement signed by its national president, Alhaji Sani Ahmad, the group said it was encouraged by the recent actions of the EFCC in investigating former public officials over alleged financial irregularities.

AYAFEJ said the anti-corruption drive was essential to rebuilding public confidence in government institutions. “For too long, Nigerians—especially the poor and vulnerable—have suffered the consequences of corruption, embezzlement, and misuse of public resources,” the group said.

The organisation urged the EFCC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sustain support for due process in all ongoing investigations. It emphasised that accountability was necessary for strengthening governance and deterring future abuses of office.

AYAFEJ also referenced recent high-profile investigations, including the EFCC’s invitation of former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami (SAN), describing such actions as part of lawful processes to ensure transparency. The group stressed that the investigations should be viewed as efforts to uphold justice rather than political targeting.

The statement further commended President Tinubu for what it called “political will and support” for anti-graft institutions, noting reforms aimed at improving security, public finance management, and the operations of law-enforcement agencies.

According to the group, these reforms include enhanced capability for security agencies to address terrorism and violent crimes, a more enabling environment for anti-corruption bodies to carry out investigations, and measures to strengthen judicial handling of cases involving public funds.

AYAFEJ urged Nigerians to support ongoing reforms and avoid politicising the anti-corruption campaign, stating that the country stood to benefit from sustained efforts to recover public resources and enforce due process.

“We reaffirm our commitment to justice, equity, and national development and will continue to monitor these processes in the interest of fairness and transparency,” the statement added.
