The Arewa Youths Assembly has congratulated Alhaji Shehu Dikko over his appointment as Chairman of the National Sports Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This followed the immediate winding up of the Ministry of Sports Development and the transfer of its functions to the National Sports Commission in the ongoing restructuring of Ministries and Ministerial portfolios by President Tinubu.

The Speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, noted that Dikko’s appointment is no doubt another instance of putting a round peg in a round hole.

“We all know Dikko is a sport veteran and is expected to bring on board his deep wealth of experience that spans decades to the National Sports Commission. His antecedents speaks much of him and we expect him to be at his best, to surpass the previous successes he has recorded in the past,” the statement said.

The statement added: “Furthermore, we appreciate the foresight and courage of Mr President in appointing Shehu Dikko, you can see this is the best appointment so far, and with this singular appointment, President Tinubu has sowed a seed in the North whose fruits will be the backing of all Northern youths.

“To Shehu Dikko, it is a new dawn and we urge you to key in to the administration’s eagerness and determination to set Nigeria on the path to irreversible growth and use your previous experience, knowledge and mastery in sports to give birth to a new and vibrant sports commission.

 

“While we congratulate Dikko, we salute President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for remaining true and committed to actualising the promise of the Renewed Hope Agenda that will ensure the rebuilding and restructuring of Nigeria to stand the thirst of time and takes it rightful position as the Giant of Africa.

“We pray for God’s protection, guidance and direction for Dikko in his new role as Chairman National Sports Commission.”
