The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on Wednesday said the Armed Forces of Nigeria would resist coup in Nigeria as has been the case with neighbouring countries.

General Musa, who spoke during his familiarisation tour of the 6 Division of the Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt, said that the military was committed to entrenching democracy in Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians not to be apprehensive about the trend of coup d’état happening in neighbouring countries, adding that the armed force of Nigeria would protect the nation’s democracy.

General Musa noted that despite the many challenges facing the country, Nigerians would be protected by the military.

To fight oil theft in the country, the General disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved funds to enable the armed forces acquire more equipment to aid their operations against criminality, while urging those involved to stop forth with.

General Musa warned that the military would not allow any record of violence at the forthcoming polls in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo states, saying that anyone caught attempting to foment trouble in any of the states would be dealt with.

Similarly, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo has cautioned   troops of the Nigerian Army in Rivers State not to engage in action that will elicit negative implications on human lives in the cause of the operations.

He spoke at a Lecture and Sensitisation Workshop, themed: Constitutional responsibilities of the Nigerian Soldier through adherence to humanitarian and human right laws, organized for the troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt.
