Malian Army spokesman said on Sunday that unidentified attackers ambushed a police post in the Central Mopti Region on Saturday, killing two police officers on guard.
The attack, the latest in a series in the area, may indicate that a new armed group that has emerged there still has the ability to strike, though its leaders were arrested last week.
“This afternoon at around 17:00 GMT, unidentified armed men opened fire on two police officers at the Ouekoro post in the Bankass circle,” said Col. Souleymane Maiga.
“The two police officers were killed,” Maiga added.
Mali’s military said on Monday it had arrested three suspected members of the Amadou Koufa-led Massina Liberation Front blamed for attacks in Mali’s centre and south in 2015. (NAN)
