Legal officers of National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB), Benin City, yesterday at a press conference in Abuja, said armed men have vandalized and closed the board’s Abuja Zone office on Plot 650, House 94, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II.

The board said two of its security guards and a director were detained at SARS facility in Garki 2, by the armed men who claimed to be members of a police special squad under the office of the inspector general.

The board’s Principal Legal Officer, Imandojemu E. Shirley who addressed journalists said the armed men broke into and vandalized the property without notice. She said ‘upon enquiries,’ it found that the armed men allegedly closed the property on the ground that it was sold to someone by FCTA and yet, NABTEB refused to leave.

She said the property was actually bought by the board from a private developer in 1998 to serve as ‘mini headquarter’ for the board and the land title had been changed from residential to commercial use in 2005 while all land charges were settled.

She said in 2014, “the board received a letter from FCDA to surrender the property on the unfathomable ground that the property has been sold under the Federal Government Monetization Policy without recourse to NABTEB.”

She said when the matter could not be resolved after the several appeals to FCDA, the board sought for legal redress, adding that the matter was still before the court.

FCT police command said it was not involved in the matter while police force spokesman, Deputy Commissioner Frank Mba could be reached for comment.
