Six young men armed with dangerous weapons attacked the female hostel of Kaduna Polytechnic’s College of Environmental Studies (CES) at the early hours of Sunday and carted away cash, laptops, handsets, power banks, among other valuables.

Our reporter, who visited the school in Barnawa area of Kaduna, gathered that the thieves stormed the hostel at about 4am on Sunday morning asking the girls to open their doors and lockers.

The girls were caught unawares and in the process of running around, some sustained various degrees of injury.

A student, who pleaded anonymity, told our reporter that the thieves tied the security men at the main entrance of the campus and also tied the female security personnel at the entrance of the hostel before they gained access.

As a result of the incident, Daily Trust gathered that some students have vacated the hostel; some are planning to do so while some parents came to pick their daughters from the hostel for fear of the unknown.

Narrating their ordeal, the students said “The campus fence needs to be raised higher so that it will not be easy for anyone from outside to jump over. All access routes to the campus apart from the main gate should be blocked.”

Another student said “Some days ago, two students escaped being kidnapped in front of the school, so we need very serious security.”

Efforts to reach management of the polytechnic failed as the chief security officer of the school, when contacted, told our reporter to call the director of protocol and information.
