A joint team drawn from the Nigeria Customs Service, Department of Security Service (DSS), military and anti-bomb unit of the police are currently screening the content of a 1×40ft container impounded at the Tin-Can Island Port, Lagos.

Daily Trust had reported on Saturday that officials of the Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, on Friday intercepted a container load of firearms at B2 unit of the command.

The consignment was said to have been falsely declared as a plasma TV set.

After the discovery, the customs high command directed the consignment to be moved to the enforcement unit of Tin-Can Island Command, where a 100 per cent examination would be carried out.

Officials of the customs are leading the team involved in the examination.

It said the examination would determine, among other things, the quantity of arms imported, country of import and those behind the illegal importation.

In a WhatsApp message responding to journalists’ enquiries on the friends of customs platform, on Tuesday, the command’s public relations officer, Uche Ejisieme, said a joint examination of all security and regulatory agencies involved in the initial examination was conducting a 100 per cent examination on the consignment.
