The Nigerian Army has commissioned a new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State, as part of its efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and promote education and technology.

The project was executed under the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative, facilitated by Major General Mohammed Bello Wabili, Director General of the Land Forces Simulation Centre.

In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, said the project reflects the Army’s commitment to fostering positive relations with communities while contributing to social and economic growth. He urged beneficiaries to maximise the use of the facilities.

Lt. Gen. Shaibu said the CIMIC initiative aims to give back to Nigerians as critical partners in national progress, complementing state efforts by providing essential infrastructure.

He noted that over 250 similar projects have been implemented across the six geopolitical zones, supporting non-kinetic strategies in managing the country’s security challenges.

Maj. Gen. Wabili thanked the COAS for his dedication to bridging the gap between the Army and civilian populations through sustainable community-oriented projects.

He said the ICT Centre would serve as a hub for learning, innovation, and empowerment, equipping students and young people with vital technological skills.

Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, represented by Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Tourism Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu, commended the Army for its contributions to the state, describing the centre as a development that will boost educational and economic advancement in Dukku LGA.

The newly commissioned facility is equipped with desktop computers, a solar inverter system, projector, printer, laminating machine, central server, and other equipment designed to enhance digital literacy among the local population.
