The Nigerian Army yesterday handed over four suspects its troops arrested with 10 bags of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa to the Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.

The Commander, Headquarters, Army Records, Lokoja, Major Gen. Felix Agugo, handed the suspects and the seized substance to the NDLEA at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja.

He said on April 17, troops on patrol acting on a tipoff arrested the suspects in the Agbadu forest along the Agbadu-Kabba road. 

According to him, the four suspects arrested include Ibrahim Isah, Abubakar Ubale, Yusuf Samaila and Hafisu Sani.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspects claimed that they were coming from Ondo State en route Kano State to deliver the items to one Alhaji Sanusi Ibrahim based in Kano,” he said. 

He charged the NDLEA to ensure diligent investigations and prosecution of those behind the crime.

One of the suspects, Yusuf Samaila said they were not into drugs business, adding that the substance was given to them by one John in Ondo State in exchange for the N150,000 he (John) owed them (suspects) for the farm work they did for him. 

He explained that they worked on the cassava farm of the said John who couldn’t pay the money but rather gave them the substance to sell and recoup their money. 

Receiving the suspects, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics at the Kogi State Command of the NDLEA, Abdulazeez Lawal, commended the Nigerian Army for the arrest and assured that the suspects would be thoroughly investigated and all those found culpable would be charged to court accordingly.
