The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tajudeen Lagbaja, has disclosed efforts by the Nigerian Army to prevent building collapse in all of its formations amid the current trend of structural failure across the country.
Lagbaja made the disclosure in the ongoing five-day workshop organised by the Nigerian Army Special Projects at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) barracks in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.
He noted on the sidelines in response to questions from journalists on the rampant building collapse in the country that, “That’s the aspect we are going to dwell on and of course, to see that the Nigeria Army projects does not undergo these rampant collapse; it is because of our diligence and continuous training and innovations that are brought into construction of buildings in the Nigerian Army.”
The Army chief who was represented by Major General Hilary Nzan, stressed that the project management workshop, an annual activity meant to boost young officers of the Engineer Corps skills in project supervision would therefore ensure officers are in top front, sharpen their skills in business of supervising projects, bringing in some innovations in both construction and supervision of Nigeria Army projects.

He added that the workshop would enhance participants capabilities by equipping them with cutting edge skills in technology in line with global standards to guarantee project success for the Nigerian Army through effective skills acquisition and application.
“The workshop will offer a platform to assess and learn from current experiences to enable us achieve better results in the future. The Nigerian Army executes most of its projects through direct labour.
“Therefore project officers responsible for planning, execution, managing and supervision of the Nigerian Army projects needs to acquire relevant skills to effectively manage projects, enhance efficiency and deliver successful outcomes,” Lagbaja posited.
Earlier, the Coordinator of Nigerian Army Special Projects, Major General Shamsideen Shafaru, harped on
the workshop’s theme, “Promoting Innovation and Adaptability in Project Management in the Nigerian Army” as being appropriate in improving the capacity of participants on global best practices in project management.
He said it was essential considering the evolving economic and environmental challenges threatening project execution in Nigeria, noting the employment of skills, processes and strategies needed to respond to changing circumstances and ensure project success in the Nigerian Army.
