The Nigerian Army troop on Monday recovered a large cache of arms in Bayelsa State and arrested one suspect following a tip-of.

 The troops recovered the weapons during a raid operation in the early hours of today at Agbura-Otuoke road in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

In a statement signed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, he said the troops while conducting a search in the house of a suspected militant leader, Mr Emmanuel Lawson alias “General” who is now at large, some quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered.

Brigadier General Chukwu added that the suspect’s accomplice, Mrs Ebikaboere Emmanuel, was arrested.

“Efforts are on to track the suspect with all his accomplices,” the statement reads.

He said that the troops recovered items such as two G3 rifles, two AK47 rifles, two Baretta  pistol, four AK47 magazine, two G3 rifle magazine, 11 Cartridges and 325 rounds of  7.62mm Special ammunition.

Other weapons recovered from the suspect’s abode include two rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, two portraits, one military Police General Duty Belt, one Military Police anklet and one hand glove.

Brigadier General Texas Chukwu while assuring the public particularly residents of Bayelsa State of its commitment in protecting their lives and property, called on all citizens to report any suspicious activities to the law enforcement agents for prompt action.
