Speaking to newsmen during the exercise, Deputy Director, 44 Army Reference Hospital, Brigadier General Mohammed Ali Baba said the exercise was part of the army corporate social responsibilities to its neighbouring communities.
He said, even though it was raining heavily officers and soldiers of the hospital had to come out to carry on with the exercise.
According to him, “This exercise is significant because, it is part of activities marking this year’s army day celebration. We attach much importance to sanitation. With this sanitation exercise, we believe that the health of the people in our neighbouring communities will be improved. This is because we are cutting grasses and cleaning drainages where mosquitoes bread and cause malaria”, he said.
The areas cleaned by the army during the sanitation exercise included, Comilla Barracks, Badiko and Kurmi was among others.
