Army/Shi’ite report soon to be released – NHRC

The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof Bem Angwe, has said the report on the army/Shi’ite clash will be released soon.
Speaking last week in Abuja when members of the New Nigerian Conversation visited him, he said investigations were over and the recommendations would soon be released for necessary action to commence.
He also said the commission had commenced hearing on issues of hate speeches which degenerated into crisis during the general elections last year.
Angwe said: “Some people from some quarters are not happy about the hearing we have commenced on hate speeches and electoral violence but we are aware of our responsibilities and will stick to them.”
He also said the commission was faced with many distractions based on the hearings.
“But we will not allow any form of distraction stop us from carrying out our duties,” he added.
Coordinator of the group, Samuel Odaudu, said the aim of the visit was to enter into partnership with the commission in its fight against human rights abuse.
