The police said they have arrested 257 suspects for various crimes at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

The spokesman for the command, DSP Joseph Alabi, said of this number, the command secured 46 convictions  from January to December, 2018. He added that 32 persons were still under investigation while 60 others were awaiting trial. According to him, some of the suspects were charged with assault, stealing, obtaining by false pretense as well as unlawful entry and touting, which contravenes the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by-laws.

Meanwhile, a new commissioner has been appointed for the airport command. He is Mr. Joseph Mukan.

Alabi said the new CP was Police Commissioner in Bayelsa State before his transfer to MMIA, the nation’s busiest airport to replace AIG Aminchi Baraya.

Daily Trust reports that the AIG was earlier deployed to the command amidst rising concerns over airport security at some period in 2018.
