Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi has said 312 youths have been arrested for their involvement in cult activities in the state.

Stating that out of the number, 244 were undergoing prosecution while 68 are already serving prison terms, the CP said cult activities have resulted in the spread of HIV/AIDs, and rising cases of rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, arson and other violent crimes.

Speaking yesterday in Uyo at a one-day students’ security and leadership summit organised by the state chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in partnership with the State Police Command, Ogunjemilusi said the programme was aimed at checking the rise in cult activities in tertiary institutions across the state.
