Police in Jigawa State have arrested a couple and one other person that allegedly specialised in ATM cards thefts in the state.

The suspects were said to use the stole ATM cards to steal from the bank accounts of their victims.

Parading the three suspects yesterday in Dutse, the spokesman of the command, SP Abdul Jinjiri, said the suspected fraudsters were arrested after some plainclothes personnel of the command were drafted to the bank premises in Dutse, the state capital.

Jinjiri said Rilwanu Sambo Fanti, 31, was arrested along side his wife, Sadiya Rilwanu, 29, at the premises of EcoBank, Dutse in possession of an ATM card belonging to Hauwa Mustapha, who gave it to them on the promise that she would be assisted to make some transactions from her account but that the suspects fraudulently withdrew the sum of N28,000 from the account.

He explained that the couple also used same trick to defraud Sani Garba and Aminu Umar of their ATM cards and stole N45,000 and  N50,000 from them respectively.

Jinjiri added that another ATM fraudster, Yusuf Aminu, 28, from Borno State was arrested at Diamond Bank premises after stealing an ATM card belonging to one Auwalu Haruna and withdrawing the sum N20,000 from the account.

“Two months ago, the suspects also fraudulently collected an ATM card belonging to one Alhaji Auwalu and withdrew the sum of N435,000. ATM cards and the sum of N155,000 were recovered as exhibits and the case is still under investigation,” he added.
