The police in Bayelsa State have arrested a cult leader and armed robbery suspect, who allegedly terrorized Yenagoa metropolis.

The police spokesman in the state, DSP Asinim Butswat, in a statement in Yenagoa, said the suspect, Prince Owei, who was on police wanted list, was arrested on September 20.

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr Austin Iwar, had last week launched a manhunt for cultists and armed robbers in the state, by setting up a tactical team headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police to apprehend any cult and armed robbery suspect with the view of making the state safe for residents.

According the police spokesman, “The suspect, one Prince Owei ‘m’ aka Big Fela, 19 years, from Ikibiri Community, but resident at St. Peters, Ovom in Yenagoa, was arrested at the Sports Complex, on his way to watch a football match and a locally made Revolver Pistol, one live cartridge and packets of Rohypnol tablets were recovered from him.”

He added, “The suspect, a jailbird and a confessed member of Icelanders cult group, will be charged to court when investigations are concluded.”

He said the Police Command in the state is determine to ensure the safety of lives and property, and appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that would assist the police in fighting crime in the state.
