Arsenal edged past a resilient Brighton side 1-0 in the Women’s Super League at the Emirates Stadium, ending their four-match winless run despite another laboured display.

Olivia Smith gave the hosts a 15th-minute lead when her low effort deflected off Marisa Olislagers and wrong-footed keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Brighton grew into the game, forcing Arsenal goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar into key saves from Kiko Seike and Carla Camacho.

 Maelys Mpome cleared off the line before later leaving on a stretcher after a head injury halted play for 10 minutes. Stina Blackstenius hit the bar late on, but Arsenal held firm to move fifth, five points behind leaders Chelsea.
