“Art in Nigeria: She Moves On” exhibition holds in Abuja

The exhibition will be organized by Casalinda Gallery Lounge and Iroko@NKA Kreations and will feature several visual artists from all over the country.

Addressing newsmen ahead the exhibition, Theresa Nardorp of Iroko@NKA Kreations, said the exhibition is designed to promote Nigeria as a visual arts hub.

“This particular exhibition is the brink of a new revolution which will soon make Nigeria visual art a talking point in the world art discourse. So this first exhibition aims at introducing what we want to do and how we want it done,” she said. She explained further that the exhibition is aimed at appreciating Nigerian arts, creating a platform for showcasing Nigerian arts as well as promoting the organisers’ vision that arts can be a major source of earning.

Some of the 13 artists whose works will be showcased include Ndidi Emefiele, Iyke Okenyi, Baba Shettima and Kehinde Dada. They were selected based on previous works and representation of various sections of the country as Gandi Obiefule, of Casalinda Gallery Lounge said.

“We tried to reach every part of Nigeria and bring artists together. We are trying to represent sculptors, photographers, painters,” he said.

The exhibition will feature talks by seven artists on various topics. One of the artists, Rita Anyiam-St John, a photographer will be giving a talk on Photograhy as Fact, Artefacts and art. There will also be a Children arts education on the last day to help children appreciate art.

The exhibition will open Friday 5th November at Casalinda Gallery Lounge, 8 Colorado Close, Off IBB Boulevard, Maitama Abuja. The formal opening will however be on Saturday 6th November by 2pm and will feature performances by performing artist and cultural troupes. The event is expected to be graced by ambassadors, government officials and art enthusiasts. It will close on 14th November.
