The Commander, the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery (NACA), Major General Markus Kangye, has expressed the readiness of the corps to provide the needed firepower support for the military, especially in the fight against terrorism.

He said the country is passing through some security challenges arising from activities of insurgents in the Northeast, banditry in the Northwest and activities of ESN/IPOB in the Southeast, which need improved artillery processes and procedures.

He spoke at the opening of Exercise Vulcan Glow IX 2023 lecture/study period in Kaduna yesterday.

The commander said the lecture was on the employment of artillery resources in conventional and unconventional welfare as well as military operations other than war.

Also, a former commander NACA, Lieutenant General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor (Rtd) described the corps as the backbone of the army.

The retired officer, who was the guest lecturer, noted that to be ready for conventional and unconditional warfare as well as military operations, the corps must improve research, development and local repairs.

He said this would help the military to be self-reliant amid limited resources.
