Africa’s top table tennis stars, Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna and Egypt’s Hana Goda, are set to learn their opponents for the 2025 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships, with the official draw scheduled for Wednesday, April 30.

The prestigious tournament will be held in Doha, Qatar, from May 17 to 25, 2025.

Aruna, ranked 20th in the men’s singles, and Goda, currently 27th in the women’s singles, will spearhead Africa’s challenge at the global event. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has confirmed that seedings will be based on the Week 18 World Rankings, released on April 29.

With less than three weeks to go, anticipation is building for the championships, which will feature five events: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles—all played in a straight knockout format.

In the singles category, 32 players will be seeded and placed in predetermined slots, while the remaining competitors will be drawn into the remaining 96 positions, completing a 128-player draw.

For doubles, 16 seeded pairs will be joined by 48 randomly drawn pairs to form a 64-pair bracket. All singles matches will be played in best-of-seven games, while doubles will follow a best-of-five format.

The tournament will award gold to winners, silver to runners-up, and bronze to the losing semi-finalists, underscoring its status as the pinnacle of individual achievement in table tennis.

 

As the world’s elite players prepare to converge on Doha, both fans and athletes are closely watching the rankings and draw, which will shape the road to glory at one of the sport’s most prestigious events.
