At least 4,000 people in two communities of Aboho in Mbaigba Ward of Tarka Local Government Area in Benue State have benefitted free medical service from the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
NACA in collaboration with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) conducted a free medical outreach in the area which included laboratory testing for HIV/AIDS, treatment of malaria, hepatitis, diabetes, deworming of children, screening for tuberculosis and free medical consultancy.
In his address at the occasion, the Director General of NACA, Prof. John Idoko, intimated that the programme was part of the agency’s’ drive to ensure free and qualitative healthcare services in the rural communities.
Represented by Dr. Lawrence Kwagha, NACA’s Assistant Director, Strategic Knowledge Management, Idoko called on traditional rulers in the area to mobilize their subjects to take advantage of the four-day exercise to benefit their health needs.
Similarly, the state commissioner for Health and Human Service, Dr. Cecilia Ojabo, who was represented by Dr. Kator Iorpav lauded the initiative and urged the natives to avail themselves of the free services to tackle their health challenges by daring to know their HIV status.
Earlier, representative of Tarka Traditional Council,  Zaki Ahembe Mbssev, said the council would partner all relevant agencies to ensure the wellbeing of his people in the rural environ.
