Two Nigerians are also hopefuls. Karen 27 is from Jos, same as Kelvin Pam, the last regular winner. Keren, currently unemployed, seeking to make an impact and improve her economic fortunes with Big Brother, is described by some watchers of the show as capable. “So far she is outgoing, sexy and hot” says Magdalene Akin. Vina, 26, a Lagos based radio presenter has already tipped herself for the crown and she is no push over. She says “I am confident about my chances on the show” and promises she will be outrageous.”

But just how possible

The odds seem to be against them. Two Nigerians had won the last two editions. The memories are still fresh. But is that sufficient to deny them the opportunity? I guess not.

Even Joseph Hundah the managing director of MultiChoice Nigeria, a Zimbabwen, has not ruled out on Nigeria’s chances. In fact he tips a Nigerian winner irrespective of the bad blood that played out between Nigeria and Zimbabwean fans when Uti won and Munya, a Zimbabwean was second. He told our correspondent at the live screening in Lagos that it is still possible a Nigerian can win and if that happens, we would still be as happy as any other country winning, after all he is in Nigeria.

But some commentators in Nigeria have said if Nigeria wins again, other African countries would protest. But unfortunately, it’s a game of numbers and ultimately how to connect to Africans. So if a Nigerian still connects to other African countries and gets massive votes, which is certain, then a Nigerian may be winning yet again and raising the bar. No country has won the show back to back.

Obviously, the Nigerian contestants, who are all female is a plus. Men have won the two editions and the Nigerian ladies are crossed with them. Seriously, a lot have expressed their discontent with Uti and Kelvin, the previous winners, for going after foreign women when the support that made them, came from mostly Nigerian ladies. Some have vowed not to vote for a guy again for what they termed a waste of support. But whether a Nigerian lady when she wins would hook up with a Nigerian man remains a matter of conjecture. We would only give them the benefit of the doubt. Based on this, a cross section of men have pledged their support to the ladies till the end, provided they act well.
