Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, have reportedly abducted two pastors from the Christian Evangelical Fellowship of Nigeria (CEFN) in Kogi State.
Pastor Friday Adehi and Pastor Gabriel Ezekiel were kidnapped on Sunday while returning from a naming ceremony.
The incident occurred around 3:30 pmalong the Itobe-Ajegwu-Ojodu-Anyigba Road.
Our correspondent learnt that the clergymen, who were on a motorcycle, reportedly rode into an ambush where the gunmen intercepted them and whisked them away into a nearby forest.
A church member, Sister Aladi Emmanuel, said, “Pastor Adehi left for Ojodu after church service with the assisting pastor, Ezekiel, to officiate at the naming ceremony of another member of the church on Sunday. Unfortunately, as they were returning to their residence in Itobe between 3:30 pm and 4pm on Sunday, they ran into gunmen on their way and were abducted at gunpoint to an unknown location.”
Emmanuel added, “Up till now, the families of our pastors have not been contacted, which is fueling serious speculation about their safety.” Residents said vigilantes, in collaboration with the military, are already on the trail of the kidnappers.
In the meantime, church members and other Christian faithful have embarked on prayers and fasting for the safe return of the pastors. When contacted, the Kogi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Aya, simply said, “noted.”
