President of NUP, Abel Afolayan, and the union’s general secretary, Actor Zal, in a congratulatory message to Buhari, said the most worrying issue facing pensioners at the moment is delay in pension payment.
While calling for pensions budgeting to be included in the first line charge, as obtainable in other countries in honour of the senior citizens, the union urged incoming state governors and National Assembly members to ensure that pension matters are given top priority.
“Through proper legislation, commitment and support, the sufferings of pensioners will be reduced and they can enjoy their retirement, having put a lot of energy in service to their fatherland,” it said.
NUP commended the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) for its continuous efforts in ensuring that challenges facing pensioners are adequately addressed.
